 Joseph
Herbert Weatherly was born in Norfolk, Virginia on May 29, 1922. While in
high school Joe discovered the motorcycle and after his hitch in the Army
started racing. He earned three American Motorcycle Association
Championships before racing stock cars.
In 1950 Joe started racing stock cars in 1952
where he won 49 of the 83 stock car races he entered. In 1953 Joe won Joe was killed in the race at Riverside, California on January 19, 1964. A hard competitor and loveable clown who seemed to speak in a rapid, staccato shorthand, Joe enjoyed life and excelled in every form of racing he tried. He left the sport a true champion. Joe Herbert Weatherly was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1994.

NASCAR's Modified National Crown along with 52 more victories. In 1962 he
won the NASCAR Grand National Division Championship. In 1962 and 1963 he
won the "Rebel 300" at Darlington. Joe was the Most Popular
Driver in 1961, and won the National Championships in 1962 and 1963.
